BSNL receives five bids

BSNL has received bids from Ericsson, Motorola, Nokia, Siemens, and ZTE to share the huge $4.5bn mobile order (45m mobile lines). The deal will be divided between two contracts that will go to the two lowest bidders. Nortel is missing, but did not bid, after big losses encountered in phase I project worth $500m. Alcatel is also missing from this round, but already received through its partnership with ITI an order for 15m lines. Huawei is still looking for a partner with local manufacturing facilities to join the bid, and it is said it could be Motorola.
