African new link
About 20 African Information and Communications Technology (ICT) ministers signed a Declaration of Intent approving NEPAD's Broadband ICT network, including the Eastern Africa Submarine Cable System (EASSy). EASSy will provide a digital link between eastern countries of the continent and to the rest of the world. Funding will come from many private sector companies. In addition, according to NEPAD’s executive deputy chairperson, Henry Chasia, "tariffs will constantly be regulated to keep costs low". Another lesson of the project and the meeting was that Africans could achieve a lot by working together and addressing the digital divide.
