Radio Access Networks Study
According to Infonetics Research, the market for radio access network (RAN) dropped 22% to $7.4bn in 1Q06 due to declines in CDMA EV-DO and GSM/GPRS RAN equipment, while UMTS RAN equipment rose by 8%. Total RAN revenues are forecast to be $26.3bn in 2009. Except 2G and 2.5G rollout in developing countries, the market in developed countries is driven by 3G rollouts and upgrades. The overall volume of RAN gear shipments and base station prices are eroding, drawing down the RAN market revenues (CAGR of -10%). In 1Q06, APAC accounted for 42% of the total market, EMEA for 33%, NA accounted for 14% and CALA for 12%.
