Japan fixed line overview

NTT controlled 61% of fiber-optic Internet services and 39% of ADSL services in as of 12/05, according to a report from the Ministry of Communications. The number of subscribers to NTT fixed-line phones fell 7% to 54.2m in March, while alternative fixed line service providers saw their market share growing 800% in 12 months to 2.6m users. NTT fixed-line phone subscribers still accounted for about 93% in March. 11.5m users (up 38%) were using VOIP at the end of March.
