Happy World Telecommunications Day!
Happy World Telecommunications Day!
May 17 officially is World Telecommunications Day, to commemorate the founding of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) on May 17, 1865. This year, the ITU Council decided to highlight the theme "Promoting Global Cybersecurity." The day has been also chosen by the World Summit on the Information Society in Tunis as "World Information Society Day".
Now ITU currently has some 190 members worldwide (vs just 20 European countries in 1865). Many thanks for all nations and their representatives for the job already done during 141 years. Thanks to their work, the communication networks have achieved strong improvement over years, but the challenge now is to let all people around the world benefit of the technology progress. The digital divide is there and must be eradicated.
Long Life ITU!
