Mobile penetration in Asia
According to BMI, Asia had 820m mobile subscribers in 2005 (+20%), of which 59m were 3G users. On a population estimated at 3.5bn people in 2010, BMI forecasts that Asia would have 1.75bn mobile users, or a mobile penetration of 50%, of which about 300m 3G users. China alone should account for 130m+ 3G subscribers in 2010. Mobile growth will mainly come from emerging countries, such as India (average growth rate of 80%), Vietnam (62%), Pakistan (38.5%), while China and Indonesia will grow “only” at about 20%, and more advanced markets (Japan, S.Korea, Australia,.HK, .) would plateau between 0 and 2%.
