Motorola posts strong revenue increase to $10bn in the quarter (+22%), a record in handset shipment with more than 46m units (+61%) and a market share of 21%+ in the handset market. Profit, however, declined 4% to $686m. Mobile devices sales in the fourth quarter hit $6.4bn (64% of the total revenues and +45% on the quarter), while Network equipment sales for the quarter were $1.43bn (down 14%). Government and Enterprise Mobility Solutions Segment sales were $1.5bn, up 2%, while Connected Home Solutions Segment sales were $710m, up 7%. Operating cash flow of approximately $700m.
IBM reports 1Q06 net profit of $1.7bn (+22%) on sales of $20.7bn (+4% in proforma). The hardware division revenues grew 3% to $4.4bn, while the service division revenues were down 1% to $11.4bn. Net profit growth was driven by cost cutting efforts and profitability targets during the quarter.
Texas Instrument earned $585m, up 42%, while revenues grew 23% to $3.3bn in the quarter.
Huawei targets $8bn in 2006 revenues (+30%) and $10.7bn in 2006 orders. 2005 revenues breakdown gives 43% from China, 30% from EMEA, 1% from NA, etc.
ZTE launched a warning on 2006 sales, lowering estimates by 19% and net profit falling 50%-100%, driven by lower than expected sales in China, and increasing low-margin handset sales.
Tandberg TV (Norway) reported revenues of $84m in 1Q06, up 24%, an operating profit of $17m (+62%), and a pre-tax profit of $17m, up 29%.
Fujitsu revised upwards its fiscal year 2005 forecasts. Sales remain almost flat, the operating income goes 3.4% higher and net income grows 36% to Y68bn.
LG reported 1Q06 results of $170m in net profit (+93%) and $6.1bn in sales (down 2.7%).
Nokia reported strong increase in 1Q06 net income with a 21% increase to €1bn, and sales rose 29% to €9.5bn, driven by mobile phones and multimedia sales. Its Enterprise unit reported a fall of 39% in sales; its Network unit sales rose 19% to €1.7bn, but with an operating income down 33% to €149m. Sales of services accounted for 40% of Nokia Network sales. Nokia sold 75m phones in the first quarter and rose its market share to 35%.
