Great move in US IPTV offerings

Publié le par Arnal

It was a pity that any operator had to ask a video franchise on a community base: lot of efforts wasted. A new bill targets to prevent this issue and create a national system for telcos to enter the IPTV market with a 10-year, automatically renewable national license, without build-out requirements. The system automatically favor telcos. To compensate, the bill also agreed cable incumbents could gain their own national franchises in telco TV areas, and do not impose any pricing limitations. One item is not yet clear: net neutrality. Can that bill, if blessed by Congress, would be sharp enough to prevent telcos from charging Web sites for priority delivery of their content. In any case, it is a big step forwards and improved conditions for the IPTV market to faster taking off.
