Broadband connections 12/05
The latest Point Topic report (4Q05) is published. The worldwide total of broadband lines grew to 209.3m lines during the fourth quarter of2005, an increase of 37%. What can be noticed is a relative stability in quarterly growth at about 8%. DSL technology account for more than 66% of broadband connections, while cable accounts for 24.3% and others (including FTTx) account for 8.8%. On a regional basis, NA and WE account for 26% each, Asia-Pacific for 24%, South east Asia for 18%, LATAM for 3%, eastern Europe for 2% and Middle East-Africa for 1%. NA and WE report a broadband penetration of 15%, far ahead of other regions.
