In a move common to many telcos in Europe, Telefonica is trying to re-integrate its mobile arm under a single umbrella. Telefonica is offering €3.5bn to ensure full control of Moviles. Fixed-mobile convergence is at the heart of the move.

In spite of a $15bn challenging bid from US equity firms, Vodafone has sold its Japanese subsidiary Vodafone KK to Softbank for £9bn (about $14bn).
