New Clearwire” : Sprint, and Clearwire will finally combine their WiMAX businesses and launch a nationwide network. Investors are also part of the deal, with Intel, Google, Time Warner Cable, Comcast and Bright House Networks, bringing $3.2bn in the wedding basket. Sprint will have a 51% stake in the venture, its CTO Barry West will be president, but the CEO will be Benjamin Wolff from Clearwire. Clearwire will own 27% of the venture, while other investors will control remaining 22%. Its target is to cover about 140m potential customers by the end of 2010. It is the happy end for a saga begun one year ago when Sprint and Clearwire canceled their project of merging their WiMAX ambitions.
