European satellite pay-TV networks: top nine satellite pay-TV platforms accounted for 22m subscribers and added 2m new subscribers in 2004. In the UK, BSkyB targets to reach 8m by the end of the year, from 7.6m by the end of 2004. BSkyB leads the European market. In France, CanalSatellite ended the year with about 3m users, far ahead of its competitor TPS, which has 1.35m subscribers. In Germany, Premiere has reached the 3.2 m subscriber mark. Digital+, in Spain, just passed 1.65m users mark. Sky Italia had the fastest subscriber growth in Europe with some 700,000 additions in 2004 and targets to reach more than 4m users. In Portugal, TV Cabo is the main pay-TV operator and had 393k pay-TV users. Canal Digital and Viasat lead the Nordic region, with a combined 1.5m users.
