Mobiles phones market share and predictions

With about 800m units sold in 2005, up 19%, Strategy Analytics forecasts that the market could grow another 15% in 2006 and pass over 1bn units in 2007. Nokia remains the market leader with about 34%, followed by Motorola, which gained more than 2 points to 18.3% market share. Samsung confirms its third place with about 11.1% (+0.5 point); LG and Sony Ericsson are fifth with 6.6% market share.

Mako Analysis has unveiled its predictions for the handset market in 2006:

HSDPA would take off,
Bluetooth connectivity would finally penetrate into low end device segments,
3G would finally meet high end 2G levels of device weight and size
Mobile music would form a key battleground for handset manufacturers

5-megapixel camera would emerge
