CDMA subscriber base overview
The CDMA Development Group (CDG) has announced that there were 431m CDMA subscribers worldwide. CDMA 2000 accounts for the bulk of the market with a share of 97%, with 417m (+16%) customers among the 250 networks worldwide. There were almost 91m of EV-DO subscribers (+64%). APC accounts for 49% of the customers (total of 211m), followed by NA with 32% (total of 137m), India with 61m CDMA customers, China with 42m users. In addition to the evolution of the number of subscribers, the number of low-end (sub-$50) handset available in the market strongly increased in 2007. To day more than 82 sub-$50 devices are available from 19 suppliers. The number of EV-DO enabled networks has also strongly increased to 26 networks commercially open and 31 in the process of upgrading. This will lead to increase date revenues for operators.
