Global handset market in 2004: Gartner provided its worldwide mobile phone market figures. 674m units were sold and shipped in 2004, a 30% growth on 2003. Nokia secured a 33% market share, followed by Motorola with unexpected 16.3% and Samsung with 12.2%. LG gained the fourth position with 6.8%, followed by Siemens with 6.4% and Sony Ericsson with 6.3%. Gartner forecast 730m units to be sold in 2005.
