NTL has made another bid on Virgin Mobile at about $1,6bn (up 15%). The two companies are in talks, but the main shareholder, Richard Branson, could receive less than other shareholders. In return, however, he would become the largest shareholder in NTL. DT is said ready to make a higher bid for Virgin Mobile, but it is just rumors.

Orange said it leads the UK market for 3G coverage (more than 70% coverage) and best quality of service. Orange also enables its customers to use their 3G phones in 18 countries across the world.

Colombia Movil (Ola) plans to invest $115m in 2006 to expand coverage and improve customer service.

Telefonica Peru plans to invest $150m- $180m in Peru in 2006.

Verizon has launched its V CAST music service. For $2, customers can download songs to their mobile phones.

Hutchison Telecom (HK) completes the acquisition of BPL Cellular (India) through its Indian Hutchison Essar affiliate.

Vimpelcom (Russia) continues its expansion abroad with the acquisition of 100% of Buztel (Uzbekistan) for $60m and Unitel (Uzbekistan) for $200m.

America Movil is interested in entering the Costa Rican and Panamanian telecoms markets.

SingTel (Singapore) has launched a new 3G SIM card that allows customers to store up to 1,000 phone contacts.
