NTL is planning to increase its takeover offer for Virgin Mobile, but Virgin could reject a new offer if not in line with previous offer of 0.93 NTL shares per Virgin Mobile share. This will value Virgin Mobile share at 368 pence (+14%)

The Philippines telecoms regulator, the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), has awarded four 3G licenses to local companies: Smart, Digitel and Globe as well as new entrant, Connectivity Unlimited Resources Enterprises (Cure). A fifth 3G license is expected to be awarded shorty.

Endesa (Spain) has sold its remaining 5% stake in Amena to Deutsche Bank for €378m.

Belgacom and Telindus reach an agreement on a partnership with Telindus acting as a separate company.

DoCoMo is to invest $300m in Philippine Long Distance Telephone, or PLDT.

Telefonica is willing to quit Freemove, the European largest cell phone alliance.

Thailand' s telecom regulator, NTC, has allowed ISPs to provide VoIP services without getting new licenses.
