Cisco is close to announce it's adding an in-house session border controller (SBC) to the XR 12000 router. It is the first time an SBC is included in a router, in line with Cisco' strategy to into the local loop. Cisco is also announcing implementation of new DWDM optics and generalized MPLS (GMPLS) into the CRS-1 core router.

Alcatel has chosen Broadcom' StrataXGS III Ethernet switch silicon solutions for its new line of core switches.
