Telecom Italia plans
TI plan
Telecom Italia announced also plans for the future. Broadband, 3G and HSDPA, UMA and cellular coverage are the main items of the new plan, involving about €10bn investments in "innovation and the development of new technologies” over the next three years. By the end of 2006, TI plans to cover 50% of households with ADSL2+ at 24 Mbit/s and 75% of population with 3G services. HSDPA and UMA will be deployed in 2006, as well as mobile TV services. IPTV services will be offered to 35% of the population by the end of 2006. This comes at a cost, and TI embarks in an initiative called “TI Program 07”, to save nearly €1,5bn during the 2005-2007 period. TI program 07 aims at the creation of a unified IP backbone for both the domestic fixed and wireless businesses, and the rationalization of sales and purchases across the group.
