European ObjectWeb and Chinese Orientware will jointly develop an open-source-based middleware platform. ObjectWeb is an European consortium, created by INRIA, while Orientware is an affiliate of the Chinese High-Tech Research and Development Program, The platform will be used to develop web services, workflow, transactions, Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) and 'grid computing'.

Knowledge Management: concentration in the market with the takeover by UK-based Autonomy of US-based Verity for $500m.
