Telefonica Ecuador said it has invested a total of $1.1bn in Ecuador to date, has made sales of $445m in 2006 and a 2006 profit of $18m. Its operating concession expires in Nov. 08.

Iusacell (Mexico) plans to invest $160m on network infrastructure upgrade and expansion.

Vodafone UK announced that it will upgrade its HSDPA network to 7.2 Mbit/s by November.

BSNL (India) and Telecom Italia plan to enter into a global alliance in the international calling card business.

Maxis and Astro (Malaysia) will trial MediaFLO from Qualcomm.

Etisalat has opened its GSM service in Afghanistan.

Altimo and Ipoc ink peace agreement on MegaFon' s 25% stake: Altimo will manage 25% stake in MegaFon stake, while Ipoc directly and through Telecominvest will have command over 39% stake in MegaFon.

America Movil will spend $250m to expand Claro' s network in Guatemala and increase its base stations to 1600 by end-2008, and plans to launch 3G services commercially by the end of this year in Mexico via its local unit Telcel.
