It is coming. UK, France and Germany will be the three first countries in Europe to sell iPhones. But, in spite of rumors, operators that will distribute the iPhone are not yet known. FT, DT and Telefonica O2 are the likely contenders; even if O2 said it has not been selected. The surprise seems that Vodafone is not in the short list. Apple has not yet extended to Europe its service (just announced in the US) to exchange iPhone batteries for $86 in the US (the weakest point in iPhone marketing program to date, as no back-up battery is sold). But nothing is too big for iPhone users and they accept (have to) blindly follow Apple marketing decisions.
