A few set of market information released this week:

  • According to GFK, the French mobile handset market reveals trends for 2007: slim, flashy colors (pink, white, ..), co-branded with a fashion brand, multimedia features (music, mp3, video, high storage,..), mobile internet with EDGE or 3G. The forecast for 2007 is over 22m units, up 11%.

  • According to IAB and PricewaterhouseCoopers, the US web ads market jumped 35% in 2006 to $17bn, or 5.6% of global advertising expenses.

  • In-Stat forecasts that IPTV susbcriber number in APAC is soaring from 2.7m in 2006 to 33m by 2012. Revenues will follow to $8bn by 2012.

  • According to In-Stat, WiMAX market pioneers (Alvarion, Aperto, Airspan, ..) are still dominant players in the market. At the end of 2006, there were 213.3k WiMAX subscribers, worldwide.

  • According to MIC, the Chinese mobile phone shipment volume is expected to grow nearly 22% to 558m units in 2007.

  • According to ABI Research, the market for mobile phone accessories will generate over $32bn in revenues in 2007, more than the $28bn expected from the smartphone market.

  • Technology: a new transparent film for windows has been developed by CPFilms, to block or seriously degrade radio signal penetration.

  • According to Maravedis' WiMAX survey, 52% of the deployments still used proprietary equipment, 36% applied the 802.16-2004 standard, and 12% applied the 802.16-2005 standard. APAC accounted for 38% of deployments, Europe 33%, North America 17%, and CALA 13%. WiMAX service revenues in 2006 totaled $322m. Residential ARPU was $41 and business ARPU amounted to $146.
