According to the NPD Group, the US mobile phone market reports steady growth of 12% in 1Q07 with $3bn in value and about 39m units sold. Motorola was performing very well in the quarter, reporting a 35% market share (+6 points), while struggling elsewhere and loosing 4 points market share. In a reversal trend, Nokia lost 9 points of market share to 10% in the quarter and two places in ranking, while reporting very good results internationally (growing market share to 36%). So the US ranking does not mimic the global market ranking. Motorola is the leader with 35%, followed by Samsung and LG with respectively 17% and 15% market share, relegating Nokia as N° 4 with 10%. Sanyo is a distant fifth vendor with a 4% market share.
