EU negotiators have reached a compromise on proposed price caps on mobile roaming charges. The agreement will see roaming fees for European mobile users cut to a maximum €0.49 a minute for outgoing calls and €0.24 a minute for incoming calls for Year 1. Then the price cap will be gradually lowered to respectively €0.43 for outgoing calls and 0.19 for incoming calls in Year 3. It is a "take it or leave it" compromise to go now to European lawmakers in the parliament and to the council of governments for a decision. If approved, the deal will come into effect three months later. That means not before mid-September.
