A few set of market information released this week:

  • Service providers and equipment vendors unit to develop 3GPP LTE (Long term Evolution), based on 3GPP Release 8. It is the promise of better radio transmission and lower operation costs. The joint activities are likely to continue for 18 to 24 months.

  • According to In-Stat, 4.5m IP set-top boxes were shipped in 2006. Top supplier is Motorola with a 16% market share. Second is Free (a French alternative broadband operator). In-Stat expects that as the market continues to grow, some vendors will reach the million mark for annual shipments.

  • Major five mobile phone makers control 81% of the market, according to Bfive. The ASP (average selling price) fell 4% to €98.

  • According to Telecom Trends, WiFi revenues would reach $5.6bn in 2012.

  • Entry-level cdma2000 3G handset prices continue to decline, according to the CDMA development group (CDG). There were 35 sub-$50 cdma2000 handsets available (in the Indian market) from 12 suppliers. ASP for sub-$50 handset is now close to $39.
