Motorola reports disappointing 4Q06 results. 4Q06 revenues were $11.8bn, up 17%, while net earnings were at $624m, down 48%. While mobile phone shipment volume grew 47%, average selling price and operating margins suffered due to demand for low end products in emerging markets. Motorola has shipped some 66m units in the quarter. For the full year, the picture is similar: revenues were up 22% to $ 43bn, earnings were down 20% to $3.7bn, and it shipped 217m units (+50%) in 2006, giving the company an estimated 22.2% global market share, up 4 points.
Mobile Devices division reported sales of $ 7.8bn, up 19%, and operating earnings of $341m, down 42%. For full year 2006, sales increased 32% and operating earnings grew 23%.
Networks & Enterprise segment posted sales of $3bn, up 6%, and operating earnings down 21% to $428m.
