Japan: In November, DoCoMo lost 17,500 subscribers (first ever drop), KDDI added 479k new subscribers and Softbank added 68,700 new subscribers. DoCoMo holds 55% of the Japanese mobile market, followed by KDDI with 28.5% and Softbank with 16.5%. DoCoMo' s decline follows the introduction of mobile number portability in October in Japan. Japan nds November with 94.1m mobile subscribers.
According to the CDG group, the number of mobile subscribers in CALA, using CDMA technology, is expected to reach 65-70m in 2006.
Telekom Malaysia announced that its mobile subscriber base reached 26.5m , up 63% in 3Q06, after the purchase of 49% stake in Spice Comm.
Orascom has expanded its mobile subscriber base by 66% in 12 months to over 50m.
