The merger between Alcatel and Lucent can go on. The green light is given by the US Committee on Foreign Investment in the US, or CFIUS, and followed by President Bush, removing the final hurdle to the combination of the two companies. Just both companies have agreed with U.S. Government agencies to timely execute a National Security Agreement and Special Security Agreement, after their merger is complete. Alcatel-Lucent will become one of the world's largest telecommunications equipment suppliers, generating about $25bn in sales and accounting for about 18% of the world market. Both companies plan to complete their merger on November 30, 2006.
