Telecom Bill unlikely now

Publié le par Jean Arnal

With Democrats taking control of the House of Representatives and the Senate, in US mid-term elections, it is natural that the telecom legislation and key committee memberships are impacted. First, Democrats are likely to want much stronger net-neutrality measures, and create more antitrust/regulatory concern surrounding industry M&A activity. That means little legislative action should be taken this year, and federal pre-emption, pre-texting, tax moratorium and other wireless measures will have to wait consideration in Congress next year. That also means that Democrats will bring more scrutiny to big deals and the ATT-Bellsouth merger could be delayed for a while.
