Sprint Nextel posted 3Q06 net income down 52% to $247m on revenues of $10.5bn, up 35%. Mobile revenues increased 47% to $9.1bn, while long distance revenues fell 6% to $1.6bn. The quarter was marked by poor subscriber numbers ( addition of 233k new users vs 1.4m for Cingular), continuing costs of its merger with Nextel (impacting profits) and by the spinoff of its local phone division, now known as Embarq. Sprint ended Sept. with 51.9m mobile subscribers. ARPU fell 5.5% to $61 per month, but revenue from data services increased almost 7% to $7.75 (or 12.7% of ARPU).
