World PC market

According to Gartner, more than 59m PC units (up almost 7%) were sold worldwide in 3Q06. HP has sold 9.6m units (+15%), Dell 9.5m units (+4%), Lenovo 4.4m units, Acer 3.5m units and Toshiba 2.6m units. Top five vendors account for just over 50% of the world market with HP holding a 16.3% market share, Dell a 16.1% market share, Lenovo a 7.5% market share, Acer and Toshiba respectively 5.9% and 4.3% market shares.

HP benefited of its good positioning on the consumer market and high growth areas, while Dell is the leader in declining markets (i.e. US reporting a 2% decline).
