Siemens prepares 4G

Siemens has unveiled what could be the Next Generation Mobile Network (NGMN) during an in-house exhibition. NGMN is the evolutionary enhancement of the current WCDMA mobile standard and will be on the market by 2010. It will provide data rates up to 100 Mbit/s, with more efficient spectrum utilization and shorter latency period. Furthermore, it will be based on the existing infrastructure, allowing fast and cheap deployment by 2010. The radio access technology is based on OFDM with adaptively allocated frequencies, and network resources reallocated 2000 times per second. Siemens is the first company in the world to hold a live presentation of the functionality of the NGMN radio network, and used it to transmit live games and high-definition videos to mobile devices. 4G is not too far away, and competition is called to react.
