Brazil is not the only country with limited mobile coverage, as mobile operators do not deploy their networks in areas they do not consider as profitable for the business. According to a study made by Telebrasil, more than 80% of the Brazilian population is covered, in a competitive environment, but almost half of municipalities are not covered. This raises of course the question about telecom services in rural areas. The government position seems in favour to subsidize operators to finance the deployment of mobile coverage in isolated areas.
