Virgin Mobile USA reports 3Q08 profit of $4m, vs a loss of $4.7m last year, on revenues of $323m, up 2%.
Vodafone announced a 35% drop in net profit for the first half of the financial year, at £2.1bn, on revenues rising 17% to £20bn. EBITDA rose 10% to £7.2bn. Vodafone warns it will not reach 2008 revenue target and will embark on a cost-cutting plan. The European revenue was slightly down (-1%), but Vodafone can be hardly hit by enforced cuts to mobile termination rates and other tariffs. The EMAPA region (new emerging countries in East Europe, Middle East, Asia and Africa) will drive growth. Vodafone has also announced it will concentrate on three key revenue areas: mobile data, enterprise and broadband.
Telecom Italia said its 3Q08 net profits were down 13% to €630m, while sales declined 1.5% to €7.6bn. EBITDA dropped 2% to €3.1bn. TI, however, confirmed it will meet its 2008 targets.
BT reports its 3Q08 revenues were up 4% to £5.3bn, net profit of £590m. The Global Services division reported sales of £2.1bn (+15%), a loss of £63m and EBITDA falling to £119m.
Singtel announced a net profit of $586m, down 12%, on revenues up 5% to $2.6bn.
Portugal Telecom saw its 3Q08 net profit down 23% to €185m (but 3Q07 profit included asset sales of €110m), on revenues grew 13% to €1.8bn. EBITDA rose 15% to €668m. PT shares went up 5% on the news.
America Movil reviewed down its financial guidance on recession. 9-mo sales rose 14% to $19.2bn, EBITDA increased 13% to $7,9bn and net profit rose 15% to $3.4bn.
MTS' s 3Q08 net profit fell 21% to $516m, on revenues of $2.8bn, up 27%. OIBDA was up 24% to $1.45bn.
Telecom NZ reported FY1Q08 revenues were up 2% to $1bn, while net profit fell 34% to $105m.
Telefonica said 3Q08 net profit fell by 50% to €2bn (but 3Q07 net profit was boosted by some asset sale) and down 29% to €5.6bn in nine months, on revenues up 6% to €15bn in 3Q08 and up 3% to €43.1bn in nine months. OIBDA fell 15% to €5.9bn in 3Q08 and by 7% to €17bn in nine months.
Wind (Italy) saw 9-mo revenues rising 6% to €4bn, while it swung to a profit of €275m (from a moss of €55m).
Telecom Egypt reports 3Q08 net profit up 35% to $172m, on revenues up 11% to $488m.
Turk Telecom announced 3Q08 revenues of $4.7bn (+10%) and net profit up 15% to $1.35bn.
