Still alive. Rumors of a possible takeover of Qwest by Verizon make sense and are still considered. Verizon could be interested to get a broad coast to coast optical networks to complement MCI, to prevent ATT to control all West Coast interconnection points for international calling, while adding revenues and catching with ATT. But with the sweets, there is also vinegar; Qwest has a huge debt of $17bn. With a opportunistic bankruptcy declaration (remember MCI case), the debt can be canceled and Qwest start again, ready to be acquired. By pure coincidence, the buyer could be the same of MCI.
