French broadband initiative

Publié le par Jean Arnal

The French government has launched an initiative to make broadband internet available for all French people by 2012. The plan, established by Eric Besson, the minister for the digital economy, is not yet finalized and should be disclosed by July-end. But about dozens of proposals are discussed to offer fixed and/or broadband access for everyone by 2012, to switch from analog to digital TV by end-2011 and to pass fiber optic broadband access to more than 4m French people by 2010. The debate also is on the priorities; are urban centers the most important priority or are the rural zones most important first?.
