Cisco new strategy

Cisco was mainly focused up to now delivering good products/ solutions on the growing markets, and we know the success of this strategy. But it recently acknowledged that what was missing in their portfolio was a systems integration arm, specially in domains where it was unprepared, such as video and IPTV. A shy effort was made with the launch of its IP NGN Expertise Center in 3Q05, but the real move comes when Cisco takes over Scientific Atlanta (an expert in video integration). With the move, Cisco joins the bunch of few large competitors having their own systems integration or network integration arm, such as Alcatel, Lucent, Nortel, Siemens, Ericsson, and few others. With a systems integration expertise, Cisco can more efficiently address the carrier business and been asked to play the role of coordinator of several suppliers. In this role, it will also be in better position to propose its own products. A first example of its new role is the recent deal with Indian BSNL to provide a turnkey 96-POP network deployment, involving 90 partners.

With this move, Cisco definitively enters in the big telecom vendor playground.
